NIICE 2022

Our research team received gold medals at the National Innovation and Invention Competition (NIICe 2022) . They are represented by the Advance Computer Engineering and Technology research group. This group at Manipal International University focuses on the research and development of high-performance artificial intelligence (AI) systems, namely unique software engineering components, tools, and technologies in the fields of engineering and computers. This project delivered a work titled Modelling a Smart Parking Management System (SPMS) based on Integrated IoT. This project describes the rapid production of vehicles and their usage in recent years has led to a severe issue of finding vacant parking slots, and this issue occurs particularly in modern cities. This significant problem worsens, especially during peak hours and on weekends. Moreover, there is also a severe problem with car parking systems in many big shopping centres. Since there are so many parking lanes, one must look for all the lanes to park a car. Therefore, developing a car parking management system is the best idea to assist drivers and save their time searching for vacant parking slots for their vehicles. Besides, the Internet of Things (IoT) has enhanced people's lives and various aspects of society. Thus, this project aims to model a simple prototype of an IoT-based Car Parking Management System and create a website that displays the status of each parking slot. This IoT-based Smart Car Parking System comprises four IR sensors, one servo motor, three red LEDs, and an LCD. All these stated components are connected to the NodeMCU ESP8266, which acts as the controller of this system. The NodeMCU controls the entire process and transmits information about parking availability to the website, which can be accessed anywhere. The design makes it simple for users to look for available parking slots before heading to the parking area. The website also has an advance booking feature to reserve the slot one hour in advance. In addition, the status of each parking slot is also displayed on the LCD installed at the parking area's entrance. As a result, this system tackles the city's parking problem and provides users with a reliable IoT-based parking management system.
